A Salute to FIL - RIP :(

May 22nd, 2011 at 06:47 pm

My FIL had been battling pneumonia for about 3 months. Tough to beat when one is 90 and also suffering from dementia. He was able to come home on hospice and passed away the next day. It was clear that FIL knew that he was at home. He had told us in the past that he hated hospitals and the like. It seems that he was hanging on until he came home. So he got what he wanted. A great man - WWII veteran, husband, father, hunter, fisherman, jokester......
Always giving to others....

DH (baby of 3) as well as our DD seemed to take it the hardest. FIL stayed with us for a time until a caregiver took over. And weekends when she was off. DH was at his home every day taking care of the house. He lived a long, good life and as DH says, "Dad got his money's worth".

RIP, FIL - you are missed.

Very sad news...RIP. I like your DH's quote; good perspective to have.
