Sleepless in Seatlle

December 28th, 2013 at 05:10 pm

I am watching this movie -- it brings back a lot of memories. This is a movie that DH took me to while dating, A "chick flick" as he puts it now. I remember that DH shyly put his arm around me at the theater. This was a second date. The first date I got the nerve to ask him to my company Christmas party. He went and we had a good time. He likes to tease me about what happened when he brought me home. I blushed, said thanks, and ran inside. .... it's a wonder that we went out again! But I had just started dating again after a very nasty divorce, and am shy if one does not know me. But we have been married over 18 years now. Maybe we will even go to Seattle someday.........

Christmas was at my house. Everything was great, both food and company. One of my brothers was in Disney World for Christmas, and to surprise me Mom we did FaceTime with him and his family. Mom was very happy.

But now we are still deluged with leftovers. ..... The dogs have been lucky to be the beneficiaries of some leftover meat and gravy (with the fat skimmed off). I have been getting creative and making turkey tacos and the like. No need to go to the grocery store except
for milk.

I had purchased new sheets for our bed and need to go back to Kohl's to exchange them. The fitted sheet does not fit by a long shot, so I think it is defective. I am just waiting for the after Christmas crowds to die down.

I am so proud of my son. He finished his first semester back at college after a long hiatus, and got an 'A' and three 'B's. He seems very excited about a new purpose in life. He is still uncertain about a major but that will come with time. He is looking for a part time job to help with expenses but seems to finally get it! He is focused on school and is trying to live as frugally as possible. He is actually couponing!

Here's a little "Sleepless" trivia for you that may be a bit hard to believe. Seattle was in the midst of a drought when the film was shot, and there were watering restrictions. One of my cousins was driving along Lake Elliott one day and saw water being sprayed all over the street. She was absolutely livid until she realized they were filming and were trying to make it appear rainy.

And not quite as interesting, but my husband & I once at dinner at the Dahlia Lounge and the waiter told us that we were sitting in the booth where a date scene was shot (not a Meg & Tom date scene but Tom & some other woman).

Hope you make it to Seattle some day.

If you ever do make it to Seattle, you'll need to do two things:
    1. Go to the Pike Market and have a meal at the Athenian and think "Tiramisu".
    2. Ride on The Ducks. About 2/3 of the circuit, the duck will sail on Lake Union and the driver will point out the houseboat.

    Look me up also!

    Happy New Year!

And sorry ... I meant to say "Lake UNION" ... not to be confused with Elliott Bay (except by me apparently).

I have no Seattle trivia or facts...sorry! But happy 18th anniversary!

I never thought in a million years that Seattle could ever be in a drought -- that is interesting to know!

Thank you for the tips on where to go when it Seattle --- I just make look you up, Baselle, when we do go! For now, we may go to the state to visit WSU in Pullman and University of Idaho at spring break. But that is completely different part of the state. DD is in 10th grade and her current major of study is offered at both institutions and is covered under the Western State Exchange (where we can pay less than out of state tuition). I also like that both towns are small by Southern California standards.

@Saving Bucks - we don't talk about it much but summers in Seattle are quite sunny and nice. It rains very little. Most of the water in the summer comes from melted snow pack in the Cascades and that year the winter was mild. Hence the drought.

Just don't make your plans based on a nice week in September. February will be brutal!

If your DD goes to WSU, she (and perhaps you) will be visiting Seattle. WSU and UWash are great cross-state football rivals.
