Paycheck to Paycheck

March 25th, 2014 at 01:13 am

I just saw this HBO documentary on youtube today. It is about a single mother with 3 children working as a CNA for $9.49 per hour. Her workshift included nights as well.

The film highlights the difficulties in her life and more. Her name is Katrina, and she has had to choose between paying for medical care/prescriptions for herself or for other bills (rent, etc.) She has no insurance at the time of filming (although she may now). She was also paying her rent on partial payments (the company was working with her - good). I did like that Katrina was trying to look to the future for her and her family -- she applied for college and was accepted! I wish her the best. What I did not like (but is none of my business) -- I cringed when I saw her girls drinking root beer with breakfast in the morning! Frown They also had a puppy (looked like a purebred) at the beginning but did sell it on Craigslist.

The kids are cared for and loved. Katrina is frazzled and doing the best as she can. Her ex is in the picture and is helpful with his time, but he had no job at the beginning of the film. Later he does get a job in a sock mill (they make socks?)

Just wondering if anyone else saw this and have any comments?
